Tranquility Base

November19

Several years back I compiled a collection of songs and musical pieces I owned. Today this would have been called a “playlist”. Regardless of the name, the experience of editing about an hour of music is challenging. It’s pretty hard to weave musical styles and sounds together to create a continually interesting listening experience. This particular attempt was quite successful, and I find myself listening to these pieces in this order more than I listen to the originals. Here’s the list. I called it Tranquility Base.

  • John Lennon - Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy), from Double Fantasy
  • Chick Corea and Return to Forever - Children’s Song, from Light as a Feather
  • Stan Getz & Joao Gilberto - The Girl From Ipanema, from Getz-Gilberto
  • Genesis – Horizons, from Foxtrot
  • The Beatles - Julia, from the White Album
  • John Williams – Cavatina, from The Deer Hunter sound track
  • Deep Purple – Lalena, from Deep Purple
  • Sting - Saint Agnes and the Burning Train, from The Soul Cages
  • King Crimson - Islands, from Islands
  • Sky – Skylark, from Sky 4
  • The Beatles - Good Night, from the White Album
  • Sky - Gymnopedie No.1, from Sky
